A childhood traumatised by war

Even as thousands of people die attempting to seek sanctuary from war, popular media sources shamelessly demonise refugees and migrants, and the so-called “migration” debate is led by racist parties and politicians. Sadly, refugee children, the most vulnerable of this already demonised group, risk becoming a lost generation.

Our collective blindness to the plight of children whose homes have been ravaged and whose families have often been killed as a result of wars in which our governments have been complicit, is a testament to our failure to protect the most vulnerable in the world.

In this exhibition Day-Mer seeks to expose the reality of a childhood plagued by war and exile. The exhibition will feature photographs by campaigners, activists, journalists and community members who have worked or lived in conflict zones in the Middle East, and those who have actively engaged in refugee support campaigns in Turkey and Europe.

At Day-Mer we believe that refugees and migrants deserve an equal place in our society, and we are committed to making sure that everybody is welcome here in the UK.
